Every year the Medieval Festival of Elche involves the city in the mistic and sounds of remote times. International artists bring through music, theatre and parallel activities the opportunity to encounter the past.

Festival's History

3rd Edition

In the 1994 Edition Mr. José Monléon become the director of the Festival . In this year the initial objectives are widened and the integration of new cultures is deepened. Each day of the present edition was dedicated to a different culture (Jewish, Muslim and Christian) without losing the essence of mestization. This year the Seminar was be dedicated to “Cultural and Religious Cohabitation” with representatives from different cultures and religions.

The Festival’s programme dedicated spaces to Sephardic concerts, intercultural groups (Bustan Abraham, Arabs and Jews from Israel), Muslim Theatre (“El collar de la paloma” by Ibn Hazm), the Cantar del Mio Cid… The great actor Adolfo Marsillach read “Music and verses for three cultures” and the Compañía de l’Aquila presents its “Oratorio a cuatro voces”. Xarxa Teatre closes the programme with “Alimara”.

“El Drac i la Poncella” (produced in Catalan for the Elx Festival of Mediaeval Theatre and Music by the Theatre Classroom of the University Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona.
