Leisure time to suit every taste
Elx offers a wide range of activities that will suit every taste. A great number of sport facilities, green zones and unique natural environments are also available. Within the district or in neighbouring areas almost any kind of sport, including risk sports, can be practiced. You can also play golf in one of the 12 courses within less than a half an hour’s drive from town. Otherwise you may choose flying in a balloon, sailing or scuba diving in clear Mediterranean waters. Several themed parks are also a popular pastime among the young and not so young.
Underwater Scuba Diving
Do not forget trying our famous regional cuisine. The most renowned local dish is arròs amb crosta (a paella rice with a top layer of omelette), rice dishes with rabbit and snails are very popular and the savoury putxero amb tarongetes (meat stew with meat balls). For dessert we recommend fresh fruit such as dates, figs and pomegranates. For traditional pastry we have the tortada d’Elx (almond cake) and the pa de figa (fig bread). Our traditional liqueurs include Cantueso (wild purple lavender) and date. Also try the paloma anisette, served with water that gives us a nugolet (small white cloud).
