Fiesta time in Elx I
We follow the calendar. In the first place, we have the Palm Sunday Procession, a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. Thousands of people go out in a procession carrying their white palms in a charming prelude to the Holy Week processions. Throughout the week processions of great passion and at the end the small paper printed religious images known as hallelujahs falling from the balconies for the Easter Sunday Procession.

Another tradition is the Arrival of our Lady on December 28th. According to legend, a chest was found on Tamarit beach by the coast guard Francesc Cantó. Inside were found the sculpture of Our Lady of the Assumption and the score of the Misteri d’Elx. The high spot is the horse ride of Cantó through the streets of Elx and his arrival before the city walls at the Town Hall announcing the discovery.
